Dear colleague,
Welcome as user of UiB's IT services! We would like to give you some information about what the IT Department can do for you.
We offer such services as PC and printer management, data storage, telephone, network, development and operation of common systems, etc.
A general overview of what you may expect from the IT Department's services is available in our service declaration: https://it.uib.no/en/Service_declaration
We would like to draw your attention to some important services:
•    Installation and management of PCs ("client management"): The IT Department is responsible for operating PCs for employees. To ensure efficient and secure operation, such PCs are installed and managed by the IT Department. So please contact us to have your PC set up, or to have software installed.
•    Data storage: All UiB employees get a personal storage area, called the "home directory". Here you store the files you need for your work at UiB. Files that will be used by other people as well as yourself, may be stored in common or project directories. The IT Department performs backup copying of all contents of home and common directories. No backups are performed on local hard disks of PCs, memory sticks, etc! Read more: https://it.uib.no/en/File_storage_and_backup
•    E-mail: UiB offers two e-mail systems. You may choose which one you will use. If you want to use calendar, you must choose Outlook/Exchange. Read more: https://it.uib.no/en/E-mail
•    Network: Managed client PCs are connected to the network by the IT Department. Private PCs, pads, smartphones and other devices may be connected to wireless network. There is one network for employees/students (eduroam) and another for guests (uib-guest). Read more: https://it.uib.no/en/Networked_on_campus_with_private_computer
Procurements of data equipment (computers, peripherals, software, etc.) is done by the purchaser of your department. UiB has procurement agreements ensuring good prices and terms, as well as compliance with environmental and legal demands. The IT Department offers information and advice before purchases are made.
